This course offers an in-depth introduction to screen studies, a field that encompasses not simply cinema and television, but also considers other forms of moving image production and distribution: from artists' video and the expanded screens of the art gallery to apps, videogames and other contemporary online audio- visual formats. The course draws on concepts from cultural studies, film theory, television studies, media archaeology, and technology studies in order to examine the aesthetic, social, cultural, industrial, and political dimensions of the screen image.
