Add to My Courses

This course provides an introduction to Indigenous art, culture and history in North America. Starting with the pre-contact indigenous societies, students explore the richness and diversity of indigenous cultures as they evolved out of different eco-systems from Central America up to Canada's Arctic. Using Indigenous ontologies and epistemologies as a starting point, the course provides an alternative view of colonial history as well as the post-colonial struggle of indigenous peoples for their own identity, place and belonging in contemporary society.
