This course will cover advanced approaches in disability studies in education and key debates and tensions in the field including intersectionality, academic ableism, Indigeneity and disability, disability Arts, disability pride, disability culture, impairment and disability, cultural models of disability, interpretive approaches and more. Students will be challenged to trouble the idea of the ‘normal’ student and forge new approaches, practices and classroom, school and system interventions to address systemic ableism and move to disability justice.
